Louisiana Bendolph, a well-known quilt maker, is one of the members of the Gee’s Bend. Art critics worldwide have compared Bendolph’s geometric quilts to the works of important artists such as Henri Matisse and Paul Klee. The New York Times called Bendolph’s quilts "some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced." Louisiana usually designs quilts in one of two ways. Either she has a design in mind and then gets the cloth she needs to help her realize that design, or she has a cloth and comes up with a design to use the cloth.
