World-renowned abstract painter, David Shapiro, creates exceptional compositions where color, form, and texture combine to create a deeply meditative consciousness and tranquility. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in 1944, Shapiro received a BFA at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, in 1966. In 1968, he received a MFA at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Shapiro develops series of work based upon Eastern traditions and concepts, such as "Mudra", known as Buddhist hand symbols, and "Savasan," a posture in yoga practices.
